Thanks!

Last night we wrapped up our current Connections series in most stellar fashion with the most popular movie of all time, Gone with the Wind. A joyous time was had by all. As we prepare ourselves for a bout of cinematic hibernation, we want to thank each and every person that has bought a ticket to Metro Classics over the last three years. We're truly stunned by the continued interest in our two-bit organization. We started this repertory program out of a love of movies, first and foremost, and we're amazed that we're still here three years down the line. We're not expecting to become billionaires with this and thankfully, neither are the fine folks at Landmark Theatres who had enough faith in us to gave us a chance. We would like to take this opportunity to thank them as well.

We're taking a breather for the rest of the winter, letting you all catch up on those year-end critic's picks and such. Don't fret, we'll be back in the spring for more awesome old movies. We've already got a theme and potential calendar mapped out so stay tuned to this site for updates and announcements. If you've got any suggestions on films you'd like to see in an upcoming calendar, please post a comment here. We will most definitely consider it. Unless it's Network. That movie sucks.

During the hiatus we plan on keeping this site fresh with at least a few posts a week. So check back often for history lessons, pre-game warm-ups, laudable links, and any news pertinent to our humble enterprise.

Excelsior!

Thanks so much for doing these classics series. It really is a treat to be able to see these films on a big screen with an audience and I'm always trying to spread the word. Yesterday's Gone with the Wind screening felt like a real occasion! Since you asked for suggestions, I'd LOVE to see Key Largo.

Thanks for the comment DM. We're glad that you've enjoyed yourself at our humble little enterprise. Last night was pretty amazing. Our first sold out show ever! Hopefully this enthusiasm will carry on into the new year. Thanks for doing your part and spreading the gospel.

In regards to Key Largo, it sounds like a great idea. We've batted around quite a few Bogart movies over the course of our many brainstorming sessions and definitely plan to play more in the future.

Be careful about making disparaging remarks about NETWORK (1976). Presumably you are jesting, but I fear people who are unfamiliar with the film won't understand your sarcasm. Believe me, there are a lot of people, even those old enough to remember the 1970s, who are totally unfamiliar with the existence of this movie.

Of course, I am guessing NETWORK was a film you've played a lot, or are considering for future programmes. Recently, the Astor Theatre here in Melbourne gave it a whirl. I was positively over the moon to experience this film on the big screen with an audience.

I'M AS MAD AS HELL AND I'M NOT GOING TO TAKE THIS ANYMORE!

Another Paddy Chayefsky film that deserves a revival is THE HOSPITAL (1971). Alas, the Astor seems to not have access to it.

Maybe this is one for the Metro in Seattle!
